Saints Prepare To Defend Championship
Following the team's most successful season in a decade, the Truro
Rugby Club's senior men's team, the Truro Saints, have begun training to
defend the Wheaton Cup.
Last season, the men capped a phenomenal season with a successful
playoff run, in which exciting victories over Prince Edward Island,
Pictou County, and the Saint John Trojans, lead to the eventual
championship trophy.
Since that monumental club victory, the Saints have also gone on to
claim the championship trophy at the Truro Indoor Sevens rugby
tournament, hosted right here in the MacMillan Showcenter. The
tournament, which features 76 men's and women's teams from all over
Canada, features extremely high level rugby, has not been claimed by the
host team in roughly 30 years, making it another remarkable victory for
the club over the last year.
Spring has arrived now, and the club is returning to the pitch to
prepare their team for the upcoming season's title defense. The club
would like it to be known to any and all individuals who are even
slightly inclined to try the game to come out. The Truro Rugby Club is
an organization who has always tried to encourage any individuals,
whether they are at all familiar with the sport, or completely foreign
to it as well. The club is aware that rugby in the Western hemisphere is
not as mainstream in the media as in the east, and does not expect many
players to have much experience, if any at all. The Truro Rugby Club
would also like to express how it is a society, and besides playing the
actual game, we have a beautiful facility in Bible Hill that club
members enjoy, whether it be watching a professional game on television,
or sitting on the deck watching as the local high school teams play. So
come on out, and give rugby a try! Practices are currently going on at
the club's facility in Bible Hill, the Farnham Mill Rugby Park.
Directions can found here on the website, in case you're unfamiliar with
the area. Practice times are at 6:30pm, on Tuesday and Thursday
evenings. Hope to see you out. Cheers to the Saints!!!
